Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At the BCCJ, fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is not just a commitment—it’s the foundation of everything we do. DEI is deeply embedded in our governance, operations, recruitment processes, Executive Committee (Excom) elections, selection of nominees and judges for the British Business Awards (BBA), and even our choice of suppliers.
Since April 2012, we have been running a dedicated DEI program aimed at fostering greater understanding and building support systems for diverse groups in the Japanese workplace.
DEI is a journey with the aim to make DEI nothing special but a matter of fact in our society. With this mission in mind, our DEI vision is
“To champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through shared learning, practical action, and authentic leadership across the UK-Japan business landscape - where every voice is valued and inclusion fuels innovation.”
BCCJでは、ダイバーシティ＆インクルージョン(DEI)の推進に取り組んでおり、その実現のためにあらゆることを行っています。以下の取り組みにおいてDEIの考えが取り入れられています：統制・運営、人材採用、経営委員会(Excom)役員選挙の実施、British Business Awards (BBA)の候補者・審査員の選出、サプライヤーの多様性。
日本の職場における多様性の発展をより理解し、またそれらを支援するような仕組みを構築するため、2012年４月から以下を含むDEIプログラムを実施しています。
DEI活動は継続的なプロセスであり、ゴールはDEIが何も特別ではなく普通の事として受け入れられる社会です。その様な使命感をもって下記のBCCJのDEIビジョンを掲げます。
「（BCCJのDEI活動は）会員の学びを共有し、実践的な行動や真のリーダーシップを通じて、日英のビジネス界において、多様性、公平性、包括性を推進します。すべての意見が尊重され、包括性がイノベーションを促進するように。」
DEI Working Group
Kicked-off in 2024, these working group sessions bring members together to share experiences, address challenges, and co-create practical strategies for fostering more inclusive workplaces across the UK–Japan business community. Members actively shape the Chamber’s DEI priorities, lead key initiatives, and help drive meaningful, long-term change into 2025 and beyond. Through these efforts, the BCCJ continues to champion DEI—not just as a core value, but as a catalyst for innovation, resilience, and business success. The DEI Working Group is currently focusing on senior management trainings, data sharing and (reverse) mentorship programmes. DEIワーキンググループ（WG）
2024年に開始したワーキンググループ活動は会員の皆さんに参加いただき経験の共有、課題の提案、英国と日本をつなぐビジネス界に広くより多様性を包括する職場環境を確立するための実践的な戦略を作り上げ実行していきます。メンバーの皆さんと共にBCCJのDEI優先事項・主要なイニシアティブを創出し、今後につながる意味のある継続的変化を推進していきます。このような活動を通じBCCJはDEIを支持し価値観の軸として,そしてイノベーションの促進剤、耐久・回復力、ビジネス成功要因として体現していきます。現在WGでは最重要要因としての経営層向け研修、関連データ共有や（リバース）メンタープログラムについて検討しています。BCCJ会員の方でDEI ワーキンググループ活動にご興味のある方はBCCJ事務局（[email protected]）にご連絡ください。

BCCJ Reverse Mentorship Programme
This programme builds connections between young professionals and established members of the BCCJ community as part of a two-way learning experience to further careers and support personal growth through exchanging expertise and insights.
The selected mentees receive guidance from their mentors on how to navigate the early stages of their career (or career changes) and understand the nuances of the international business sphere. Selected mentors should see this as an opportunity to reinforce their leadership skills, learn from leaders of tomorrow and contribute to fostering greater diversity in business. Participants say that exposure to external senior management mentors and to eager younger mentees provides stimulation and a unique experience.
BCCJ メンタープログラム
本プログラムは若手とBCCJの経験豊富な会員間で双方向の学びの機会として見識や経験を通じてキャリアや人的成長を支援します。
選ばれたメンティーはメンターからキャリア形成（または変更）の仕方や国際的ビジネス界での機微を学びます。選ばれたメンターにとっては本機会は自身のリーダーシップスキルを磨き、将来のリーダー達から学びビジネスにおける更なる多様性の促進に貢献することができるものです。参加者からは社外のシニアマネージャーやる気のある将来を担うメンティー世代に出会うことのできるこのプログラムは、通常では経験できない視野を広げ、直接学びを得られる貴重な機会との評価を得ています。
BCCJ DEI Events
The BCCJ regularly hosts events covering the full spectrum of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, bringing together thought leaders and Chamber members to share insights, experiences, and strategies for meaningful change.
DEI events in 2025 so far have included “Female Diplomats Driving Women's Empowerment in Global Politics & Business” jointly hosted with the American and Philippine Chambers of Commerce with ambassadors from the UK, Mexico, and the Philippines; and BCCJ International Women’s Day “Time for Action” comprising discussion and speed career networking sessions.

BCCJ DEIイベント
BCCJではDEI全般にわたるトピックに関して見識豊かなリーダーとＢＣＣＪ会員との洞察、経験、戦略等の意見交換ができるイベントを定期的に開催しています。
2025年のイベント例としては、英国・メキシコ・フィリピンの各大使をお招きして「女性外交官が世界の政治＆ビジネスシーンで女性のエンパワメントを促進する」という題でアメリカおよびフィリピン商工会議所と共催し、また「BCCJ国際女性デー『Time for Action』」というテーマで講演とキャリアスピードネットワークセッションを開催しました。
